Grosbreuil, Monday 18 November — This morning, the residents of Grosbreuil saw some unusual activity on the local composting platform. An imposing machine, a Willibald SHARK II shredder, accompanied by a JCB 538 telescopic tractor, was put into action for a very special task: shredding green waste.

Twice a year, the local authority calls on Valdefis to carry out this crucial task.
The aim? To reduce all the green waste brought in by members into a useful material for composting. In just 1? hours of intense work, the mountain of branches, dead leaves and garden waste was transformed into a voluminous pile of shredded material, ready for use.
Shredding: an efficient and sustainable process
But what is the point of shredding? The answer lies in a number of advantages, both for the environment and for local authorities.
- Reducing the volume of waste
The shredder significantly reduces the size of green waste. This process reduces the amount of waste on the composting platform, freeing up space for the next batch of waste. - Accelerating and Improving Composting
The shred obtained is used to enrich the composting process. Mixed with household organic waste, it improves the structure of the compost by adding carbon, which is essential for the balance of the matter. This mixture optimises decomposition and produces high-quality, nutrient-rich compost, perfect for improving garden soil. - Ecological waste recovery
Shavings are not just for composting; they can also be used as mulch. By covering the soil, it limits weed growth, retains moisture and protects plants from temperature variations. Recycling green waste in this way helps to protect the environment and promote a circular economy.
By recycling green waste, the volunteers in our "Compostons ensemble à Grosbreuil" association are helping to preserve the environment while strengthening community links. Their commitment proves that, even on a local scale, everyone can contribute to a greener, more responsible future.
See you next spring for another day of shredding!
