Missing: one rake, last seen in the green waste pile

"The Grosbreuil council worker who helps out on the composting site may have lost his rake somewhere in the green waste dropped off recently. If anyone can find it — please do, before Monday's shredding run…"

With that brief but decidedly urgent message, Annick — our revered composting operations chief — sounded the alarm this morning. A rake. Gone. Swallowed somewhere deep in this week's green waste deposits.

Picture the scene: our valiant council worker, diligently pitchforking through the recent drop-offs, glances away for one second… and that's it. No rake. Vanished. Absorbed into the biomass. Perhaps on its way to becoming compost itself?

BD RateauAll hands on deck!

The call for volunteers shot through our group chat with the speed of an earthworm in a rainstorm (which, as you know, is remarkably fast). And once again, the magic of our association worked its wonders: within minutes, a merry band of volunteer sleuths had assembled.

Armed with goodwill and gardening gloves — we do maintain standards —, our volunteers are at this very moment combing methodically through every pile of clippings and branches. The investigation is well underway, and in very capable hands.

No doubt about the outcome…

True, the rake has yet to resurface. But fear not: as our little comic strip illustrates, this kind of adventure always ends well at Compostons Ensemble. The volunteers are searching high and low, and sooner or later, someone will cry out: "There it is!… Well hidden, wasn't it?!"

Monday's shredding will go ahead without a hitch, the council worker will get his smile back, and our green waste pile will keep its dignity… more or less.

💚 The moral of the story: at Compostons Ensemble, we never leave a fellow volunteer stranded — or their tools. Watch this space — and if you spot a lonely rake lurking in your green waste, do let us know. Preferably before Monday!

A huge thank you to every volunteer who turned out — you are the compost that makes our association bloom. 🌱

⚠️ Windrow Alert

Is the windrow not heating up? The most likely cause is a lack of carbon. Wood chips are essential to balance the nitrogen-rich food scraps. Please always respect:1 part caddy waste  +  3 parts wood chips
